The Comedy Carpet, The ISTD?s 2014 International Typographic Awards

The Comedy Carpet was described by judge Liz Farrelly as "a truly giant achievement", and fellow judge Catherine Dixon added that "I've had the pleasure of watching individuals of all ages wandering across its surface chuckling to themselves as they read the texts presented. As a project it also represents an extraordinary amount of work in terms of research into the chosen comedians, selecting the texts, persevering with materials to get it all to actually work in three dimensions and then through installation to final finish. In every sense it's just a joy."

Project #2

The Corporation (2003) by Joel Baka

Provoking, witty, stylish and sweepingly informative, The Corporation explores the nature and spectacular rise of the dominant institution of our time. Part film and part movement, the film is transforming audiences and dazzling critics with its insightful and compelling analysis. Taking its status as a legal "person" to the logical conclusion, the film puts the corporation on the psychiatrist's couch to ask "What kind of person is it?" The Corporation includes interviews with 40 corporate insiders and critics - including Noam Chomsky, Naomi Klein, Milton Friedman, Howard Zinn, Vandana Shiva and Michael Moore - plus true confessions, case studies and strategies for change.

The Smallest Printing Company

Printing the smallest posters of the Chaumont Poster festival.

We where really happy to be at the Chaumont International Poster and Graphic Design Festival again. This year we made our installation a little bit smaller. We brought a scale model of a Viprotech silk screen table and a scale model Roco-Ets V50, all packed in two crates full of ink, paper and tools. Ready for printing in the blink of an eye.

An 'impressive little show' for a great festival

Project #2

Hello World! is a large-scale audio visual installation comprised of thousands of unique video diaries gathered from the internet. The project is a meditation on the contemporary plight of democratic, participative media and the fundamental human desire to be heard.

On one hand, new media technologies like YouTube have enabled new speakers at an alarming rate. On the other hand, no new technologies have emerged that allow us to listen to all of these new public speakers. Each video consists of a single lone individual speaking candidly to a (potentially massive) imagined audience from a private space such as a bedroom, kitchen, or dorm room. The multi-channel sound composition glides between individuals and the group, allowing viewers to listen in on unique speakers or become immersed in the cacophony. Viewers are encouraged to dwell in the space.

This interesting blend of paint and typography by Warsaw-based designer Pawel Nolbert was created by photographing actual paint splatters and merging them with digital illustration techniques. Titled Atypical, he describes the series of posters as an exploration of the form and rhythm of letterforms "presented as half-realistic, half-illustrative figurative sculptures."
